I have spent my working life as a toolmaker and spent 7 years working at one of the UK’s leading rapid tooling companies where the individual toolmaker had ownership of his own tooling project, from mould tool design, through all aspects of that moulds manufacture right up to being at the press as the first off samples where shot. Projects have been in a variety of market sectors, Defence, automotive, electronics, and medical to name a few.
In the same capacity I have also worked for a medical device manufacturer and worked along side the designers on new product design and development, prototyping and bringing new products to market. I also had 2 years at the U.K.’s leading thermoforming toolmaker, designing moulds and programming 5 axis machining centres.
This has given me a wealth of knowledge that covers many areas including Mould tool design, design for manufacture, CAD/CAM, 3-5 axis CNC, wire erosion, EDM, manual machining, polishing and fitting to name a few. I have always had immense pride in every mould that I make.
Having a diverse skill set enables me to see the bigger picture when it comes to mould tools and manufacture, yet there is always something new to learn!!

Nishant Shah
India and U.K. Project Manager
I finished my Mechanical Engineering degree from Mumbai University, India and then went on to do my Masters in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering & Management from Loughborough University, U.K., where I was introduced to the world of Rapid Prototyping, Tooling and Manufacturing. I had decided then and there that this is the field I want to work in. And hence I found Star Prototype.
The first time I came here was for an extended interview and I was amazed at this place. Zhongshan is a nice little city that has so much to offer. But mostly Gordon and the company fascinated me. Gordon is an institution himself and it is always so nice to listen to whatever he has to say. Over here at STAR it is a continuous learning process and I instantly fell in love with the company and the people.
I joined STAR in April 2011 as Project Manager for the Indian and UK market and I will be based in Mumbai/London. I will be in charge of developing business within the UK. and India. I am so glad I found STAR and will always try and come here to visit the STAR family whenever I get the chance to.
