STAR helps leading UK Design firm DCA

Clive Southernwood of UK based DCA Design contacted Star Prototype to manufacture a range of foot care products. The goal was to make a few thousand ‘full-production-quality’ parts quickly. This required a suite of tools including polished NAK 80 steel and soft P20. The plastic was Chimei ABS 757.

The suite of tools was completed in about 3 weeks in STAR’s Zhongshan Rapid Tooling factory.

The job was managed by Johnny Li – “The key challenge on this project was the withdrawal of the long sliders. In the video you can see that the tooling has an ‘off-board’ hydraulic core. We have had as many as 3 hydraulic cores in one tool before now. Matching up moulded threads is also a challenge. We really enjoy making difficult tooling as it sets us apart from the regular rapid tooling suppliers.”
